Hello,
I am from Bs As, Argentina and i am installing a new tank of 220 G.

I would like at the end to use live rock as a filter in combination with a skimmer.
They told me this method is possible and can work with fishes in the tank, even if i dont have live corals or anemones.

Is this possible??

Also, Can i go to the Sea from Argentina and use rocks from there as live rock? (i know it is not caribbean or Fiji but maybe it works as a filter?)

Help will be appreciated.

Fish Only With Live Rock (FOWLR) tanks are very common and work very well. In fact, my workplace has one in it's lobby.

I'm not sure what the coast of Argentina is like, but remember that the live rock is dead coral (very porous calcium carbonate). Stone doesn't work.

Also, the animals in this hobby are all from tropical environments. If you live too far south in Argentina, the animals from your native rocks may not like the warmer temperatures in your aquarium.

When harvesting from the ocean, be aware of your countries laws too. Free live rock isn't worth getting in trouble.
