This is a very sad day!!! We have a new tank (55gal set up over a month ago/ 45lbs live rock and live sand) .. we got a cleaning crew to help with some algae and diatom bloom.

Cleaning Crew:

6 snails
10 blue/red leg hermits
1 rather large brittle star
2 Emerald Crabs (one small/ one large)
6 Nausau Snails

Recently we've seen 2 dead hermit heads and bodies..shells have not been found?

Today we finally put our 2 clown fish into the main display tank from the QT. They were happily swimming about all day. It was lights out, so the clowns seemed to go into their night time mode..... well.. we just noticed that one went missing..

we went frantic.. looking under rock and could not find it anywhere... We inspected the star.. and he is fatter than he was I think.... Could he possibly have eaten our Clown????
I think he is the only culprit..although our live rock had a pretty good size brittle worm.. and maybe the emerald crab..but i think we'd see some sign of the fish.. from being torn up?

The star is now in the QT tank.. and we are contemplating his future.

Help!

Green brittles are predatory. Small fish that stay in on spot at night are fair game. If you want something simlar, go with the serpent stars. THey are good janitors and much safer with small fish.

FWIW - I've had a GBS with clowns for well over a year now - the trick? - keep him well fed. So far the peace treaty has stayed is course! :P

We fed our BS with shrimp pellets so he wouldn't go after our small fish. Our BS was 12" from tip to tip.
