I have my overflow box setup with an aqua lifter and I have the return line from the aqua lifter going back into the tank. I was just wondering if that was standard or if others do it differently (overflow or sump). Also, I'm not sure if the return from the overflow should be completely submerged or not?

If I'm reading this correctly, you don't want your return "cage" to be completely submerged. Mine isn't - and this prevents critters (large snails in particular) from getting into that cage and clogging the water flow.

I think that we are talking about two sepparate things. On my setup I have an aqua lifter attached to the nipple on the overflow box that starts the siphon and then another piece tubing going from the outlet of the aqualifter to the tank.
