So my tank is just clickin along. Started in April. Fighting some algae right now but all inhabitants seem happy. The algae thing is gettin a bit trying. Tanks been up since April I believe.

A week ago I made my own sump/fuge. A 29 gallon for a 120g tank.
Talkin bout feelin good. Didn't spend all the money, sense of accomplishment and all that. I even thought for a minute that I may have graduated from newbieness :D In the fuge I have chaeto, red ogo and I just noticed a viny like plant starting to grow.

So tonight as I'm getting ready for bed I look in the tank one last time b4 hittin the hay. The actinics were on. Water looked real cloudy. I kicked the halides on and I'll be dammed...

I have about 15 Astrea snails in the tank. They're all at the water line or highest rock in the area like they're tryin to escape. They're bunched in 3 and 4's. And it looks like they're smokin. White clouds just ooozin outta them. Cloudin up the water. Took one out and put it in a glass of tank water. Within minutes you couldn't see in the glass. Cleaner shrimp was bouncin all over the place. Fish seem fine. Yellow Tang a little hyper though. I do have 5 different type snails and the rest seem fine.

I checked ammonia, trites, trates, pho. As usual all 0 or close to. I use ro/di water. Don't have any made and have to be to work in 4 hours now so a change is outta the question.

Only changes have been the sump/fuge bout a week ago and I also started runnin a phosphate reactor with phosban...

Anyone know whats going on? I really do have to get a bit o sleep. Hope I don't wake up to a dead tank. Gonna be one long day tomorrow.

Any insight or experiences would be greatly appreciated...

TIA
Jim

It sounds like they were having sex. Just do a water change as soon as you have time.

So its kinda like a salmon run. Head up river for a mass spawn.

Water is crystal clear today. Everythings cool. Quite the scare lookin at milk white water. Did a change none the less.

You know I had that in the back of my mind then I thought no way. A group thing. Funny.

Thanks for the reply.

I agree, it sounds like a spawning event. The waterchange will have taken care of most of it I imagine, but it wouldn't hurt to add some carbon for a while anyway. As for your algae problem, pay attention to your phosphate levels. A phosban reactor running GFO can do wonders for an algae outbreak.
