Have you been adding any chemicals to your tank. It's very unlikely that the PH got that high all on its own. How are you testing it (PH probe, test kit brand)? I'd definitely get it tested with another kit or someone else's PH probe to confirm.

If you do indeed have PH that high, I'd suggest going to the grocery store and buy some seltzer water. Try to find some with just water and CO2. Fortunately, that's usually the cheapest brand. Use your discretion if there's anything else listed in the ingredients. Add it slowly, and you'll see results very quickly. If you have or can get your hands on a PH probe, that would be best. I don't know of any good rules of thumb for how much you'd want to add to bring your PH down to normal levels.

Other things that are supposed to work are baking soda and vinegar. Baking soda will raise your alkalinity, so keep that in mind if you decide to go that route.

IMO that's a bit high, but not alarmingly high. Not high enough that I would mess with it. IME you can do more harm than good trying to achieve "perfect" numbers.

As IC mentioned - confirm the reading first. Unless you're dosing kalkwasser or doing very frequent water changes with a salt that mixes up to a high pH, it's likely not accurate.

well im not too worried about the pH at this point, i have nothing in my tank, just mixed the salt into it 2 days ago. i used a salifert test kit and a pH probe, both read at that level. and it seems to keep on rising. i have no idea why its going up. no chemicals or anything went inside. just water and the salt mix.

Yeah, that's unusually high if you're not adding anything, but if you're getting consistent results from 2 different sources, it sounds like it's probably accurate.

I agree 100% with ChrisRD. Don't try to chase the numbers and provide good water circulation. I use Reef Crystals myself, and I've never had any PH issues with it.
