I am in the process of purchasing all of my equipment slowly. I am goign to have a 65 gal tank with a 20 gal sump. I have seen pics of heaters in the sump and not really any in the main tank. (unless they are hidden very well) What size of heater will i need and is there a reason that they are placed in the sump and not in the main tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm not sure on size of heater, but since you will have a sump you may want to have the heater in there. The purpose of a sump is to house all the ugly equipment in there, rather having it visible in the display tank. I have a couple powerheads inside my main tank, but all the pumps and protein skimmer is inside the sump.

I think two 100-150w heaters would serve you well. I'd go with two smaller heaters as opposed to one big one simply to reduce the chances of a failed heater either causing your tank to get too hot if it gets stuck on or allowing it to get too cold if it dies on you.

And ditto Mrktplayer on having the heaters in the sump.
