Thanks for all the help in the past!
My next stupid question is the salinity in my tank is a little low 1.020 and seems to be dropping over the past week. Is it OK to to do the 10% water change with water at about 1.023 to bring up the salinity or will that shock the fish (sailfin tang)?
Thanks

You should be okay IMO since it is 10% your SG should only rise to about 1.022 or 1.021.

Not a stupid question, but an interesting one. I am very curious as to why the salinity is dropping? Do you remove the tank water (skimmate/tank leak) and replace it with RO (auto top off, manuel)? Without intervention, salinity never goes down unless your salinity meter is drafting. :?

Once your SG is stable topping off to the same level with ro/di will maintain the same level of SG, spend a little more money and get a refactory meter, more acurate.

If you have a FOWLR SG is not that important to have at 1.025, put if you have Corals you should try and keep it at about 1.025. More concentration of trace elements with out adding allot of supplements if you use Reef Crystal, have them in there.

Fish only with live rock, SG is salinity value, Specific Grafity, your salt content of the water.
