Anybody have advice on buying fish online? I no longer like the local store, the only one, and have never bought online. Store recommendations? Ones to avoid? Bad idea all together?
Thanks for the advice

some ppl get great result from buying online-

i have seen ppl ordere from Pet Solutions, Drfosters Smith, umm and then there are some more expensive specialty places look through the vendor forum-
but always ask if you are unsure if a fish will fit in your tank because sometimes online vendor sites with fudge the minimum tank size to make the fish look more desireable.

Only lfs we have is a petco, started there and out of the 5 fish I got 4 have died, damsels even :( Thought it was something with the tank, a day later I got some fish from saltwaterfish.com , month later and all of them are still doing great.

i've used www.drsfostersmith.com with things in the past and had good experiences.

As far as buying from petco.. you may want to figure out what day they get their shipment in... visit on that day before they dump them into their crowded contaminiated tanks.. and just take the fish home in the water he was shipped in.

This way he only goes through the stress of accimation one time. I recently purchased a fish like this.. and he's still doing great!

Just an idea!

Liveaquaria.com seems to be one of the better online stores. . .they're run by Drs. Foster & Smith by the way. So far, out of the four online stores I've ordered from, they're the only one's I've been 100% happy with. Marine Depot Live was by far my worst experience with online ordering of livestock. Principle alone keeps me from buying fish from Petco. There may be some good ones out there who actually take care of their fish and corals, but for the most part, I'd like to see them all get out of the fish business. I definitely wouldn't buy anything that has actually touched as much as a fin in one of their tanks.

I've had great experiences with Pet Solutions and its about the only thing I use now. They're very nice and give great customer service in the event something doesn't go quite as planned. I've been meaning to use Saltwaterfish.com but they dont have enough stock that I want at one time for me to fill an order alone.

I stopped buying from local LFS because of all the fish that die of cyanide poisoning. I really love to shop at the LFS so I can see the fish but I just dont trust them anymore.
