Seaclone skimmer ...

I have been searching through the threads for a bit now and i can't find a reason why the seaclone skimmer is so bad, i'll i have seen is "dont buy it, i threw mine in the garbage etc." I just want to know what is so bad about them. Thank you

Protein stimmers in general need very specific conditions (water flow, water/air mixing, etc.) to work properly. My understanding of Seaclones (both in owning one and hearing about them) is that design makes it difficult to calibrate these factors. That means that, while they are capable of doing a good job, the average owner probably never has one operating at 100% efficiency, and his/her tank may not get appropriately skimmed. I have heard that the Seaclone can be modified to correct this flaw, but I think most people just spend the extra money for a protein skimmer that was designed better in the first place.

In short, it's not that they are "bad," but we have many other manufacturers to choose from that do it better.

I almost bought one when I first stated out.. so i have looked at them in person hands on.

IMO they are cheaply made to start with... as the previous poster stated ppl have stressed that they are nearly impossible to calibrate....and even working at 100% capacity they are reported to not work very well (in contrast to other skimmers).

For the price of a new SeaClone you can get a used AquaC Remora and pump from ebay ( a MUUUUUUUCHHHHH better hang on skimmer).

The seaclone is too much of a pain to adjust - It was taking me close to one hour after each water change - And then, it was not skimming this much - I was lucky enough to get my hand on a cheap EuroReef RS-80 and life is a lot better
