Using wood for making LR pillars

I'm thinking of using wooden rods as the thing you stack the live rock on. I read others using fiberglass rods, but i guess in Nova Scotia we dont have that. So the question is will wood effect anythign or should i use another type of material?

Wood will rot. You can get acrylic rod from online vendors and would be a much better choise.

Or pvc pipe, 1/2 is not that big.

i used wood on some of my towers. it's still fairly strong..months later, but if i had it over again, i would have used acrylic rods for all. my acrylic towers i can take apart if i want to change things or move things around, but the wood, the day after i put it in the tank, it swelled and cannot be removed.

... and not to mention that if you aren't careful, and use 'pressure treated' wood, you could be exposing your tank to vast quantities of copper!

yeah...raw wooden dowels from home depot or lowes are acceptable IMO, but try and go with the acrylic. also take into consideration the possibility of nitrates appearing as a result of rotting wood.
