In my tank I have quite a few bulbs of a metallic, green bubble algae. Or at least I think it is bubble algae... Is that what they are? Some of them are in crevices so how do I get rid of them? My biggest one is bigger than a marble So I dont want to pop it. Any Suggestion...?

I would include a picture but I dont have a camera sorry...

the best way is to use a piece of tubing, start a siphon, and keep it as close to the bubble algae as you can while you try to pluck it off the rock. manual removal is the only way i'm afraid, but watch if you pop them, the spores could spread it. that's why the tubing should suck up any accidental popped bubbles.

Some people use green mithrax crabs; however, they are opportunistic omnivores and can take out fish when they get bigger. Not to mention they pop the bubbles before they eat it (thus limiting the population, not eradicating it).

You could also attempt to remove the rock with the algae and scrub the algae off. Then rinse the rock with fresh sterile saltwater before returning it to the tank.

I harvest when doing water changes by the syphon method. Biological control are always hit or miss. Foxface rabbit fish a supposed to eat it.

Alright thank you very much I will probably go and try to break them off while using the siphon just in case. I never thought about that.

Thanks for the help...
O and is it normal to have one a lot bigger than a marble? Kinda cool watching it grow but I dont want it to pop and mess my tank up.
