new reef tank

hi i am new to this forum i have had a fish only tank for a year and started to put a few inverts into it now i have decided to setup up a reef tank i was running a fillter on the fish only setup and was adding a few bits of live rock so what happend was my niterate was going up to 100mgs so i got live rock .it came out of a mature tank that was up and running for 2 years so i will let the rock sit in my tank for about a month before i disconect the ext fillter.. I was looking for any good but cheep place on the net for corals and any other advice on the reef setup the tank i have is a rio 180 i have 1 maroon clown ,1 blue trigger ,5 blue damsels ,cleaning wrase ,cleaning shimp.


i would be greatful for any advice

Hi Colin and :welcome:

Fellow hobbyists are generally the cheapest source of corals/frags. If you don't have a good local club, check into www.frags.org

Just FYI, Maroon clowns and most damsel species typically get aggressive/territorial with age. Also, most cleaner wrasses ( Labroides sp. ) have a poor long term survival record in captivity.

There are a few species of relatively reefsafe triggers, but I'm not sure which you have as "blue trigger" is not a common name I'm familiar with. For example a Blue Line Trigger (Pseudobalistes fuscus) would not be a good choice for a reef whereas a Blue Throat Trigger (Xanthichthys auromarginatus) would probably be fine...

Lighting
Filtration
Pumps
Livestock
etc.

I just have t8 lighting and a rio 180 hoping to upgrade am looking for the right tank. Filtration the internal box filter in the tank and a fluval 305 external for circulation i just have a maxijet 1200. But as i say i am hoping to upgrade my tank oh yes the live rock i have is indonesian
