All,

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum.

I can't believe the activity in this forum... this hobby is far more popular than I ever thought.

Is anyone making a decent side income (or primary income) from selling live coral from home? Just curious.

Thanks for any info about this.

realistically, you would have to have a very high volume in sales for it to be worth while. the cost of operating a coral growout/frag setup can become expensive. most people just sell corals to somewhat offset the price of this oh so expensive hobby.

agreed..

it's going to cost you a few grand to set something up, and then you'll have to wait till your investment grows out .. all the while paying electric and water bills.

even the LFS owners in the area claim they hardly break even and they are just in it for the joy of the hobby.

I would imagine that the exception to this would be that if somehow you could manage to cultivate really rare corals that would fetch a high price... but even then mortality rates and time would be an issue.

Yep, not even close to practical.

I've done well breeding freshwater fish though.
