New Tank

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Anyways I have a new 28g JBJ HQI nano, with 40 pounds (3-5") of live sand and I'll be getting around 25lbs of live rock tommarow. I was wondering if these fish and inverts are compatable with my tank: Orange Diamond Goby, Yellowhead Jawfish, Coral Banded Shrip, some hermits, Emerald Crab, maybe a clown. What else would be suggested for my tank when it's done cycleing? Also if anything wont work well together please let me know! thanks!

Everything you stated should be just fine. But Please go slow. Let you biological filter (live rock) catch up to the fish.

After the tank has completely cycled, I would add your inverts, check your water and after the readings are ok then add your first fish.

The yellowhead and goby might fight.... so add them at the same time.

I would not put in the Diamond. They are sand sifters that needs good sand area to survive. Also, there might be some aggression, due to small tank size, between a diamond goby and jawfish.

one thing you might want to know- those diamond gobys can get 6 inches long. i think they are better served in a bigger tank.
i don't suggest a lawnmower blenny for a tank that small either- mine has grown to 5 inches and has a tremendous appetite(he does eat prepared foods).


the yellow headed jawfish is an awesome fish and a great addition to your cube. just make sure you keep the lid on, i've lost a few of them to suicide!

Yeah the hood is maybe 10 15 pounds so it should be fine, just one yellowhead jawfish? what other fish would be good to keep in the tank, i've heard 3-4 max in the 28gallon. thanks!

if you are getting a jawfish, make sure you have large grain substrate. if you don't, the jawfish will dig all over the tank.

the Fridmani Pseudochromis will work, although they can be a bit aggressive. a clown is fine, assuming it's a percula or one of the smaller clowns. i don't think you want a 5 inch maroon clown in a nano. 8O

i've had pearly headed jawfish, with sugar sized substrate, and they dig some, but nothing i was upset about. a better suggestion would be to make sure your rock is sitting on the glass bottom and not the sand, so it doesn't shift in the event of digging, and kill the little guy.

the crab/shrimp lineup sounds good.
a small fairy wrasse might be a nice addition instead of the pseudochromis...
i think there is a sticky in the nano forum about compatable fish for nanos...
