I am new to the reefkeeping world, and looking to convert my old FW 20H into a nano reef. As of yet I haven't been convince on whether to try to go for a sump (10-20 gallon) or just try it without a sump, but that is not my first question for this thread. What I am really curious about is that I have heard the refugium part of a so-equipped sump acts as the perfect breeding ground for copepods and amphipods, which are in turn used as food for the fish. If thats the case, my question is wouldn't the return pump in the sump shred the pods on the way back to the display tank?

some will die, but most will make it through. they are very small, and will slip by the "shredding apparatus"
