So, first post. :D

I am in the research stages right now, but I am planning on starting up my first "real" saltwater aquarium. I have faily limited saltwater experiece, but I have been running several freshwater tanks for years.

Here is the deal....

The local pet store says I should buy their packaged "live sand." It looks as though it is made by a company named LiveSand. http://www.livesand.com/

However, I have found several other sources that suggest buying it from other sources.

Here is my question.....

Where should I buy my live sand? Go with the pet store.... or somewhere else? Any suggestions?

To be honest, I've never bought "live" sand, just the dead stuff. Assuming one has the usual amount of live rock, the bacteria seem to begin colonizing everything else within 24 hours.

I could see this in my tanks because the fine particle from the sand bed, which stayed suspended a week after I put it in a sterile tank, droped out of the water column in that time after adding live rock.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sand. Get whatever looks best in terms of cost, appearance, reviews, etc.

Also, from personal experience, be very careful about what the fish store guy tells you that you MUST buy.
