Question???

I was wondering if there's anything wrong with filling up a fluval with biomax only and not use any sponge or carbon??? I'm just trying to avoid the build up of nitrates. I would also like to know if my idea of biomax only is pointless.

i believe that it will build up your nitrates very high being that it traps all kinda crap unless it is cleaned on a regular basis.imo its worthless being that you can get the same effects with LR .i would fill it with carbon if you had to.D

Having a "trap" for dendritus like a fluval would only increase nitrate and phosphate, UNLESS you are extremely diligent in cleaning it out regularly.

BTW, phosphate is much more detrimental than nitrate for a reeftank. Keeping it low is imperitive to healthy coral growth, color, and success. I've seen many successful tanks with high nitrate, but not a single successful tank with high phosphate.

Needless to say, I am a BIG FAN of phosphate reactors with GFO inside. They are relatively cheap and make a big difference between success and not.
