just saying whats up as i am new to the site. i live in queens but go to school in new jersey. my sister has a 30g tank with coralife 150W (10k) halides with two 65w actinic pc's and the tank looks awesome. i want to do the same for my place in nj but due to the crazy amount of work my sister does to maintain the tank i want a smaller tank (10-15g maybe). i plan to keep mainly zoos so was wondering what type of lighting do u guys recommend and if there are any for sale. my friend said i need a ballast but im clueless. i want a decent amount of lighting so i can get some nice color from the zoos. so i basically need some advice with the setup of lighting. please help as i did do a search but all i find is ppl asking questions about watts/gallon. thanks in advance.

welcome to mr. and so you know a smaller tank is actually more maintance than a larger tank. there's usually people always selling stuff here. someone posted a complete 5 1\2 g tank on here for a nice price.

Welcome to MR Marcus.

If your intent is to keep zoos and softies, there is no need to go for metal halides. You can use HO T5's just as effectively and avoid heat issues, excessive electric and more frequent bulb replacement.

You can keep both those animals under HO T5's. The only issue you'll find is that the shortest bulb length for HO T5's is 24". That might dictate what size tank you'll need to go with. However, like Brendan said, smaller tanks are more difficult to stabilize. Larger tanks are actually easier to maintain.
