Yeah definately get a refractometer. Do not buy a cheap RODI unit. It is the lifeblood of your aquarium and a VERY nice one can be had for under $150. You'll end up replacing all the filters with higher quality eventually, so just buy the better filter to begin with. It is generally not recommended to use a 100gpd membrane either, because they are normally only 90% rejection. You should be using a 98% rejection and 75gpd filmtek/dow/ge brand. I bought a cheap RODI on ebay when I first started and have since replaced everything.

Did you get your RO unit yet? Have you tested the TDS on it yet? I am interested in getting one myself, the price seems right..

alot of the cheaper r/o kits have generic catridges....look at the r/o kits made for reef tanks and double check on what catridges they are providing....

i have a ebay r/o kit too....bought it for 99 bucks i believe........when i checked out buckeye field supply and some others.....my catridges(like carbon blocks) are all regular drinking water catridges
