weird skimmer question

i bought a skimmer of a fellow reefer on friday.i had a little problem with the flow pipe which i fixed.it was running fine all day yesterday and all day today till i feed the fish.i smelled a funny smell and i looked at skimmer ,it filled up with water.i empted it out plugged it back in and again filled up right away with water.what could have caused this to happen.

Ingredients in the fish food caused the bubbles in the skimmer to burst prematurely.

Did it fill up with ugly green water. Or clear water? Do you have the water level too high? You need to set it just right so that only the crappy bubbles will flow over.

no it was just the water.it was set fine.i was producing skimate "dry" for 2 days now .like i said it overflowed when i feed.i unplugged emptied it plugged it in and again filled up right away.ive about had it with used skimmers.

Did you ask the fellow you bought it from how it acts during feeding?
You may have also turned it back on too soon after feeding, and therefore gotten the same result.

I know that my skimmer's bubbles die off almost completely when I feed and it doesn't resume it's 'normal' skimming for about an hour or so.

What kind of skimmer is it? ...not that I'll have an answer for you, but someone may know the the type it is

its the old style either the 80 or 135 i cant tell.i cannot find a web site for the old models

I guess turning it off for feeding would make sense.
You didn't say what brand of skimmer it is...

if the ER has original adjustable riser pie then you will have t adjust the height, doing a "mod" using a gate valve saves you time & grief in the future

Just find a way to slow the flow to your skimmer...It's up to high...there's got to be some knobs....
