Hi, I recently started a FOWLR 75 gallon tank with the following equipment: 75 gallon oceanic tank with oceanic overflow, oceanic overflow kit, oceanic sump, tunze 9010 skimmer, 2 tunze nanostreams 6025, ehiem 1260 return pump (4ft head loss). I added in approximately 60 lbs of live rock and 120 lbs of live sand, the tank has been cycling for 5-6 weeks and has since completed the cycle. I did a 25% water change yesterday in preparation for livestock and/or cleaning crew.
Now to the problem, the once moderately quiet overflow now has a flushing noise to it accompanied by a change in water level in the overflow, which was not happening during the whole 6 weeks. I checked the overflow kit to see if the air hole was clogged, it isn't; and I checked the drainage tubing to see if anything was stuck or blocked creating back pressure, its clear. I managed to get some noise reduction and decrease the frequency of the flush effect but that required me to turn down the return pump to about 50% when I was running it at 70% in the past.
What do you think can be causing this flushing effect?
Thanks in advance,
brian
