my guess is low Mg as well...unfortunately there is not one magic solution that keeps everything in check...
fortunately, Mg levels do not drop very quickly...Once you get it in check it should be good for a while. i just add a splash in with my water changes to keep it in check.
Only dose the part that you need to dose, if one is too high then don't dose it. But the MG is the stabilizer for 2 part. Don't dose anythig that you do not test for.
Step one: Test your Alk, Calcium and Magnesium with decent test kits (ex. salifert).
Step two: Dose a sufficient amount of each individual part of two part until your ratios balance (ex. Calcium 450, Magnesium 1350, Alk 8.0-9.0)
Step three: Thereafter dose Alk and Clacium in equal proportions daily to bring your Alkalinity into balance. Always dose equal amounts of Alk and Calcium. You will need to test daily until you get a feel for your tanks demands.
Step Four: Test Magnesium on a monthly basis (give or take) and adjust your magnesium.
Alkalinity, Calcium, and Magnesium are interrelated. If one of them is out of wack, the other two will follow.
If your other levels are correct and your pH is 8.2 then its probably an issue with the test kit or you testing. Whats test kits is $4.99? And what other test kits are you using?
