Yes, but truthfully I don't see a difference when it's old or new...I recently changed the carbon in my tank(2 phosban reactors) after 4 months of use and did not see a change from when it was old to new...
It's funny, when the carbon is getting saturated and its useful life is exhausted the water starts turning yellow. However, it isn't really noticeable........UNTIL you change out the carbon. Then the water looks polished (crystal clear) after about two hours. It's at that time you realize the water was yellowing.
Oh okay....Do you use filter socks??? Because I do water changes about every 8 months and haven't noticed yellowing at all...Or maybe its just my lights 12k..My acros are holding and gaining color.... I also use a denitrifier for nitrates and phosphates maybe that has something to do with it....
Yeah when I added new carbon is when I checked for a change this was about a week ago...The only need I really have for water changes is to add trace elements..I have been using almost the whole line of Natureef products...If you get a chance check their products out and let me know what you think...natureef.com It's been pretty decent for me...So far...
Bob, we almost exclusively use ESV products. They are top quality, priced right and industry accepted.
Also, I don't think you want to add nutrients to your tank. We try as hard as we can to skim our systems and REMOVE nutrients. I think you want to add trace elements with your water changes and dosing.
i think he is using them to replace trace elements cause he doesnt do water changes. and if russ is saying what i think he is, is that the water seems to look alot clearer after changing out the carbon. it's noticable in my tank as well. not much but you can tell, dont even lok like water is in there
I don't know if it helped because I didn't test for organics, But in a mesh bag is the best way to do it in a reactor leaves to much room for escape...Even then it will get all over you system...
