Hi All,
Only 1 more week until my husband gets home - but right now I'm having this problem with this red stuff growing. (What is it called?)

I have done a water change and I have repeatedly checked the water, all is good. This red hairy stuff keeps growing. I have turned the sand on the advice of a couple of "reef people" - but it comes back almost immediatly. Is there anything I can do to help slow the process of its growth until he comes home and can do more? I know he has to do something with the filter when he gets back. I just don't know how to keep it at bay in the meantime.

Thanks so much!

Increase flow over the affected area, do a water change, run some carbon, check your phosphates real good. Are you using a ro di filter ?

it's cyano bacteria, do you use water straight from the sink when adding top off water ? how often and much do you feed your fish ? do you have a phosban reactor ? what powerheads do you have ? the get rid isnt a over night thing, you need more flow, i would say your phosphates are way to high, also get more clean up crew, hermits nasserith snails, turbo's maybe a sandsifting star fish also, here is several people asking the same thing you are and had the same problem, read through some of their threads. this is also when you was asking about buying a fish and stuff i said spend the money on better equipment and equipment needed, make a healthy tank first then add livestock later, cost less

I will read up! I do believe we have to increase flow as well. Unfortunately I don't know most of the answers to the questions. I have been checking the phosphates and PH incessantly and its actually all tested well. Thanks so much for the direction!!
