Bottled water from Crystal Rock

Hello everybody. Can you help me with this problem?

I have 26 gallon tank, so I have 4 bottles of 5 gallon freshwater each bottles delivered to my home. It is reverse osmosis but they add Ca, Chloride, Mg, a pH of 7.1 and TDS of 28.

Apparently the company said someone called in to them and said that this wanter is totally unsuitable for a reef tank.

Is this true and why? All of the ingredients are in saltwater anyway.

TDS is high. Get a RO/DI unit and you will see the difference in your tank, I did.

well the TDS is 28 because of the Ca, Mg and Cl they added, but i'm not sure why it's not suitable for a reef...maybe the ratios will be off when you mix it with salt? :scratchch

I would NOT use a RO/DI for a 26 gallon tank, too large of investment for a small tank. Get a DI filter unit, less equipment to deal with and much faster to make a few gallons a week for your top off and bi-weekly 5 gallon water changes.

Thanks, is it any good? I probably use the same tap water as you with its iron oxides, nitrates and phosphates?

AP Tap water filter is a waste of money. Been there done that If you want mine I can dig it up and dust it off and give it to you. But it removes very little and the filter replacements are expensive.

I agree with chief, those tap water faucet adapters is not good enough. My suggestion is to continue using your current water supply with 28 tds it might be that high because of the additives the company uses as noodleman suggested. Now I don't think you should use that water for long instead check the for sale trade forum, Occasionally someone leaves the hobby and sells their rodi system and that's a good opportunity for you or buy a GE water filtration unit. Gotta agree with Pierce on this one. It's all I've been using for the past 10 months or so and haven't had any problems with algae and the likes. Instead of replacing the stock filter just buy DI beads and fill it up with that. Works out cheaper, you get your water, and its 100X's faster.

Thanks man. The water company said that they also sell distilled water..I realise this is the 'uber' water, but my chemistry 101 tells me that the water is very 'aggressive' and could be a copper still based. Any comments??

RO water will be a problem for me, it would involve a plumber, drilling into granite countertop etc....oh my...

Your current water supply is Iffy, the distilled may contain copper, So wait for someone to sell a rodi. They are not saying it is bad. They are just stating that it is overkill. There was one in the freebie thread yesterday. Here . Dj Orion is far out there send him a pm in case the other guy passes. But yeah you at least have to do some plumbing.... or Here.... Hey do I get paid for all this research, I'm not Deanos = Moderator and Great guy who loves to reply with links.

Thanks for all the suggestions. At the present moment, I have a refugium but algae growth of calerpa mexicana is robust!!! I have to pull the stuff out every two weeks. Its a pain to be honest!!
