I have a 55 Gallon tank with 2 Koralia #2s and 1 Koralia #1. I am considering getting some sort of wavemaker. I want to keep mostly SPS and some LPS corals. Do I need a wavemaker? If so what is a good choice? For example I saw Dr. Foster has an Ocean Pulse model for $54. Is that worth it or do I need something better?

Lhkorn99, I recently stumbled across an article on Manhattan Reefs that in it's preliminary findings confirms that althought statis water flow is acceptable for Corals, random flow (such as created with a Wavemaker or pumps on timers) will provide a better environment for Corals. I'm pretty new to the Wavemaker arena myself my JBJ Nano Cube HQI actually comes with one stock that has a dial which allows you to keep my two pumps on constantly or I can set it to intervals of 10 seconds, 20 second, 30 second all the way up to 30 minutes per pump. Other models available will allow you to setup different configurations that will include the ability to setup more then two pumps on a wavemaker, control the alternating of pumps down to the one 1 second intervals or even to program a pattern for with multiple pumps in order to create a truely random water flow within your Aquarium. Hope this information helps you. Also is money is not too much of a deciding factor maybe you should think about an Aquarium Controller that would not only contains some programmable Wavemaker features but can incoporate many other useful gadgets such as pH monitoring, temperature monitoring, lighting control, etc.

Those koralias are non controlable and you stand a chance on voiding the warranty and messing them up if you put them on a wave maker.

MJ's yes. I believe the Koralia 4 is controllable with the seio controler, and the Tunze nanostream 6055 is as well.

Thanks eveyone...in hindsight I should not have gotton the Koralia for my setup. I am now looking into the maxijet 900s with the mods on a red sea wavemaker..I currently have a 55 gallon but thinking that if I am already putting more $$ into it, perhaps upgrade the tank and start it up correctly, So I am now considering venturing into a 90 or 120 Gallon Reef ready tank. I am waiting for a deal on the for sale posting.
