I'm in the process of setting up a 72g tank, I already have Mag 7 in my refugium and it seemed fine, until I just hooked it in line to my Oceanic 1/4 chiller, it obviously lost some of it's power. I'm not sure if I need to upgrade to a bigger pump now? if so, any recommendations? the tank is in the bedroom so it has to be a quiet pump.
And is there a way you would know how much water you need from the return in the refugium?

How many gph does your chiller manual say it requires?
I wouldn't think you'd be able to run both your return & you chiller off the same Mag7..not enough power.

IMO I would not run a return through a chiller straight & back into the DT. My chiller drains into my sump so it isn't sending much cooler water direct into the DT.

Are you sure? That is an very large gph range!
Either way..the mag 7 alone could run your chiller.
Looks like you will need a second pump.
Is the tank RR or do you use an OFB?

Yeah, that's the range written in the manual, I know it's a pretty wide range!
It's a reef ready tank, not sure what OFB stands for, lots of abbreviations on this site and I'm not familiar with yet :)

OFB = Over Flow Box :)

Does your tank have one overflow or 2?
You might want to pcik up a second Mag 7 if were happy with the way it was peforming already and use thw new one on the chiller.
Do you need to be running your chiller now due to heat? Do you have fans in your canopy?

The tank has 1 OFB ( I'm learning the language ) lol

The reason I connected the Mag7 directly to the chiller is that I'm trying to cut on the number of pumps since the tank is in the bedroom and I'm trying to cut on the noise as much as possible. The chiller is powered on but it's not operating since the temperature in the tank is 76 and I don't have my halides on as yet since the tank is still cycling. There are fans in my sunpod halide fixture, they're pretty loud though! :-(

It's an oceanic 1/4 chiller, it's prety cool, you can plug the heaters right into the chiller itself and it switches between cooling and heating automatically! I don't know if other chillers have the same option?

I've read a couple of threads about the mag screws rusting!! scaring me now!
