Whats the best way to clean a dirty filter sock?

Washing machine with a cup or two of bleach. You should use a bunch and change them so that you have 6 to 10 to wash as to not waste water. Keep the used ones in a closed salt bucket.

Thanks so much. Makes sense to wash them with bleach but why in the salt bucket? To keep them dry?

The salt bucket was just a recommendation since most people in our hobby has one and they have lids.
This will keep your dirty smelling socks from causing you a divorce :lol:

When you are ready to wash them, use the large water capacity since these guys are dirty, perform a double rinse and air dry overnight to evaporate any residual bleach.
Start with one cup and if you find that the socks are still medium dirty, then add more bleach next time. The socks will not come out crystal clean over a period of washings, so do not expect them to. A faint smell of bleach left on the socks is okay and will not kill your reef.

i do one cycle w/ hot water and bleach...followed by a cycle w/ just hot water
