Would this UPS have enough juice to run a 2 nano koralia and 150w heater for lets say 8 hours?

CyberPower - 425VA

or Should I go for a higher battery rating:

APC 1300VA

Just established my tank and want to make sure I'm able to run the powerheads and heater in the event of a lengthy blackout.

This is for a 30 gallon reef set up.

Throwing the heater into the equation makes it difficult to estimate the amount of power a UPS will provide. Factors such as ambient room temp and current water temp will determine how often and for how long the heater would need to access power from a UPS.

Well since they are only 2 nano koralia's and a heater that may be on for only 5 to maintain the 30 gallon you should be good to go with the CyberPower. I have seen the APC equivalent run a simple Windows XP desktop with flat panel for 40 minutes before the low battery signal went off. I personally prefer APC with all of the workstations and servers I administor. You can also go to APC and there is a calculator that gives you a guideline as to the amount of power you need for your application.

It will work great with the pumps, but the heater will drain down the battery real quick.

I have a 2200 for my dart return pump, runs about 6 hours. Pump draws 150 watts.

If the heater is the concern you can be creative maybe by leaving the main heater off the UPS. Take a second heater place it on a timer and plug it into the UPS. And from there you can play around with the timing. That way if there is a failure you can regulate how long the heater stays on thus maximizing the UPS battery long enough for you to get home. Did that make sense?

look into the newer apc 1500va model, on this model u can add an extra backup battery which more than doubles the run time. Its better to safe than sorry, especially knowing how reliable con ed is lol.
