sand for aquarium

Hello all, has anyone used beach sand in their tanks, please post if you have or not, also please post the type of sand used. Thanks :help:

I use Caribean Play sand from Home Depot as a base, then add live sand on top. Cuts down the cost of live sand and in time it will all become live when critters stir it up.

I would be very hesitant to use sand right from any of the local beaches, including Toms River. The local waters as we all know have been known to deposit lots of undesirable deposits on the beaches. Forget about the syringes from years ago, but there is still runoff from the local businesses and residences that wind up on the beaches, unseen, ie: fertilizers, sewage, various chemicals.

I just wouldn't chance it. Not worth the minimal savings IMO.
