Pump recommendations...

We had two little giant pumps for just about 8 years on our old tank, and never a problem, when we sold everything were still good as new.

We were thinking of going with them again this time around. But I would like to know what those of you on MR are using as far as external pumps go.

Also as far as T5s are concerned is something like the Tek better because of the individual reflectors per bulb or is a fixture with one reflector okay as well? Or hell what brand is better/worse? I guess the ballast is the most important part.

I'm a big Aquaticincs fan for T5's.What size tank do you have?On my 90.I use eheim,super quiet.

Pink were you using the Little giants as internal pumps or the external ones?

Also, the new TEK fixture line is using the same 96% SLR reflectors that Aquatinics is using - they are both really nice fixtures. If you want to juice it up a little Aquatinics sells a Solarflare line (4' only) with IceCap internals that overdrives the bulbs to 80w each.

Just some helpful info - let us know about the internal external.

We have the Oceanic TEch Series 120 and we were using the little giant external pumps on our old 170g. We had two Little Giant 4-MDQX-SC.

I want to go external with the pump/s this time around as well. Also what are thoughts on closed loops? Neccessary or not... or should power heads be just as sufficient?

The KEY to T5 efficiency is the individual reflectors. without them you might as well run VHO's. I am a big fan of blue line/pan world pumps. These are a better value in my book; they run cooler and quieter and they are damn sexy with their black on yellow coloring.

I have a closed loop, and don't really like it. For the same money, and time I could have just bought a vortech. And with a little more cash, I could have bought the battery backup for the vortech that will automatically kick if the power goes out.

i just replace my little giant 4-MDQ-SC with customsealife silent titanium pump and i have to say i don't hear it ruining at all,to bad they closed up
