be careful with elevated MG levels, it can kill corals.

And my experience with elevated MG level (1,600+) is two fish got pop eye two days after the dose, two separate times.

BTW. 2 month in elevated MG didn't do a thing to the hair algae in my tank, I continued to harvest 2-3 pounds of it a week:(. I don't think anyone can grow hair algae like me:lol2:.

I actually don't have any hair algae that I can see. Only bryopsis. :(

I'm a little nervous about the idea of raising the Mg in my tank. I feel like even if it doesn't hurt my fish/corals, it will definitely throw all of my reef chemistry out of whack. That might be too big of a price to pay right now. If my problem gets worse ...

elevated would be over 1600 for a long period. it can kill bryopsis , but many coral will not tolerate it either and it messes with inverts as well.

And as cali has pointed out it can have adverse effects on fish as well, I had not heard that before.

I think messing with your MG level is a bad way to go. In the one large tank I saw try this method the bryopsis did crash, but when the levels returned to normal it came right back. Aside from the algae dying a bunch of coral and sensitive inverts died also. they did not come back.

it's a horrible algae to have to battle. it makes me feel lucky I only have bubble algae to contend with.

Thanks Jonathan. That makes me feel better. :banghead:

Unfortunately, as stated before, I can't remove the rocks that it is on. It's also growing in my sand (that is where it started first). I've already been removing as much sand around the bryopsis as I can. The smaller pieces, I will take out again and scrub around the coral with a toothbrush. I'll slather some kalk on the patches and put it back in my tank and see how that goes. Sigh.
