I have the AP24 using PC lights with the cover. Are there any good protein skimmers that can be used with this configuration. I've read good things about the Aqua C remoro HOB, before i buy it can the AP24 be modified to accept this skimmer and keep the cover on?

Sapphire is out of business, and aqua c has their nano hang on, but you'll prob have to cut up the back. I never had much luck with the "in tank" submersible skimmers like the sapphire models, so IMO if ya have to go with a skimmer, stick with the tried and true, or get a cpr aquafuge and make a refuge instead.

Most of the good skimmers are going to require you to cut the top or remove them entirely.

Thanks for the replies and the link to Chiefs tank. Should be interesting to see how i can modify the back and keep the integrity of the hinge. I think i might be better off building a stand with a sump and drilling the AP24.

The idea of removing the hood and changing the lights has been an idea, but I have a sixline wrasse that my wife and I are quite fond of. Plus for buget reasons i'd rather spend the money on water quality than lighting. I don't have anything that requires MH yet.

What every you do do not buy the Fission nano....should be called a nono.
Utter complete crap.
I have modified mine with egg crate in the back so....so have filter floss on the top only overflow the others I put the slats in. I keep carbon, floss, and PO/SI remover in the back along with a LED bar that I have settup for a mini fuge with cheato and 3lbs of LR rubble. I left some space in the platform that I made out of egg crate for the floss so I can get the siphon into the bottom.

That plus good water changes and I don't run a skimmer at all.
All my levels are good.

What type of LED bar are you using. is it exposed to the water or did you install it in the cover?
