benefits of using mud

Would like to hear from reefers that have experience with mud over sand in refugium, and why.

To start one up is fine but not for an existing one.But..In the long run,another thing to clean up.

RC has a few threads on the miracle mud on refugiums. Think we have a few real old ones. I dunno anyone who sets up a fuge with it anymore though.

mud refugiums are typically set up using a plenum to max out the benefits of the nitrate cycle. Typically the mud does get dirtier although your getting better bacteria surface for growth. Also people tend to change it every year or so. Think thats a synopsis of it all but go check on the threads in RC and here.
