Getting a:
250/400 watt metal halide icecap hqi fixture and a 250watt ballast from dr foster and smith. Since it dosent come with bulbs what should i do about brand and type i really dont want to buy the wrong ones

I know it needs to be 250 watts i dk double ended and single ended

Just a little factoid Rob..."hqi" means the fixture takes double ended bulbs
