Setting up my first reef tank. Will be purchasing LR in about 1 week .How do I acclimate the rock to my new tank. Would it be the same as fish, coral, inverts??

Is the rock cured?
What will be in the tank in a week?

If the tank is new, and the rock is cured, just add the rock after checking all
Parameters.
I remember you posted about cooking some old rock. How did that go? Make sure that's done before you add your live rock...

no just dunk it right in, no real need to acclimate. Unless your buying uncured live rock or dry live rock, in which case you will need to cure it, preferably in a seperate container in an area that is very well ventilated.

have have been "cooking" my rock for about 2 weeks so far. I have not had too much success getting the dead old dried up green algae off the rock. I was thinking of pressure washing it to see if that helps

Hey Tom,
Welcome to the Orange County contingent of Manhattan Reefs. There's more of us locals than you can imagine.

If your tank is empty and you're starting from scratch, just cure your LR in the tank. It'll complete the cycle and you'll be ready to start stocking it with critters before you know it. The best piece of advice you can get right now is TAKE IT SLOW. Do not try to rush the ammonia cycle. Let it go through its natural stages and mature.

If you have any questions, feel free to shout them out. I'm sure some of our resident experts will advise you properly.......but don't be afraid to use the search function. Almost every question you have has already been asked. So if you're online at 3 or 4am, you can still read up on some of those nagging questions.

Welcome aboard and good luck with your new system. BTW, without pix, people will flame. So get your camera ready.
