I just purchased a bottle of Algaefix (Marine) to combat some unwanted algae, and I noticed my maidenhairs bleached out a gray color, and than a day later it was back to normal...my question is does the Algaefix effect these types of plants in a harmful way?

Yes thought it was freshwater only as well. With a reef you should try to not add lots of chemicals.

I now refer to stuff like that as "snake oil"
Don't do it, may actually add to the issues in your tank... Get a really good cuc and you should be fine ... if its water algae than water changes, carbon renewal, and a great skimmer (and if you really want a uv) may def help
