I'm sorry to post so many questions but....I am a newbie!!! So I have a 29 gallon reef w/ sump & was wondering how and if it will even work to build a 5 or 10 gallon refuigium!!! My questions are will it have any benefit in such small volume, and waht materials would I need??? Does anyone have any suggestions for this DIY project?

Sure..any added water volume helps keep a system more stable..aim for the biggest sump you can fit in your stand..ideally a 10g or larger
