just looking for some different opinions.

i was told to stock a reef tank with my fish first.

then i was told to stock my corals first.

soooooo.

what should i do?? thanks

its a cycled tank with a CUC in the tank already. 30g tank with 70-80lbs of LR and 20Lbs of LS. i want mostly corals. T5HO lighting about 1000gph movement as well. thanks

How long is your tank running for? I would do crabs and snail before any fish or corals.

Well considering some fish will eat certain corals you should probably figure out what you want to keep, coral wise, and then plan the fish you can put with the coral. So do your livestock planning first.

As for stocking fish or corals first, well you can do a mixture of both, just that when you're adding fish they will have an impact on your bio-load in the tank. So you need to be careful and not put too many fish in as it can cause water condition problems, which can be bad for the corals. You should also take into account that some corals need an established tank, as do some fish, like Mandarins.

As said before, I would draft a list of the planned live stock, then introduce a few fishes and a couple of corals, but nothing massive to see how both populations fare.

Corals can be tricky at the beginning (right flow, right light...)

this is the stock list.

2 perc clowns
1 firefish goby
1 midas goby
1 flasher wrasse

corals:

feather dusters
zoos
leathers
shrooms
xenia
richordea(sp?)


not all at once but this is what i m looking to get into then eventually SPS and some clams and the more harder to keep corals down the line.

You can go either way and or a mixture of both. With what is on your list I see no reason you can't do either or. I would personally stay away from feather dusters.

y no feather duster... also this will be the coral and fish together..

You didn't list anything that is difficult to keep..........until you said SPS down the road. I would not mix the leathers with SPS. Leathers release too many toxins that SPS are very sensitive to.

As for fish, your list is a very easy (but very nicely put together) list. I'd put the gobies in first. After that your pair of clowns, then your wrasse. Not critical by any stretch of the imagination to do it this way (since the whole list is docile fish), but the gobies are probably the least aggressive of the fish you mentioned.

There is no reason that I can think of as to why no feather dusters.
They are way easy to care for. They are filter feeders so I would wait to put them in so that they will have something to feed on. You can also feed them phytoblankton, and the likes.

Aggree with the above posts, would wait for the feathers and ricordea, the rest is pretty safe...

Feather can be tricky and are very sensitive to levels...would wait a bit!

thanks to everyone. all my levels have zeroed out again after adding my CUC i had a little bit of a nitrite spike. like .25. i will definately add the gobby first then. that was going to be my next question. in what order. thanks to all that has put there input in. please keep the info coming..

so i got a new addition for the tank.

i went to fishtown usa in queens and got 2 false percula clowns. one male and one female.

they ate in the tank and those were the ones i got.

i tried to get the blenny's but the didnt have any in. the guy must have been new and tried to sell me an algae blenny as a midas blenny.

will post pics later of the two.

i would like to get some kind of zoo or anemonie (sp) so they can host it. that will be in like 2 weeks though. any thoughts or recomendations?
