PH Drop

I thought I read someplace (not sure where) that PH tends to fall at night and then rises again during the day? Is this true? The reason I ask is that my tank has never had a PH drop (and I usually test midday or in the evening and its 8.3) and I tested it this morning before the lights came on and it was 7.8. Now before I go throwing some buffer in there, I just wanna check. Everything seems to be doing fine. Is this a normal occurrence?

Yes, it's normal. No need to add any buffers.
You can reduce the swing if you have a sump by having your sump lighting come on when your tank lighting is off.

Just wanted to add, only if you have a refugium in your sump. If its just a return pump and skimmer in your sump, the lighting won't do anything.

too great a swing means your alk is low. heres a good article on what it is n how important it is.

my alk is between 2.5 and 3. dKH aroun 8-9

Your alk isn't horrible, but if you're starting to get pH swings you may want to slowly raise it 10dKH.
