Glad you were able to get this fixed - in hindsight, siphon breaks drilled into anything is a poorly designed system. You should not have this issue, ever, if designed properly.

Jim,

Sorry but i have to disagree with a necessary syphon break being poorly designed. Especially in the case w/ using Wavy Seas or Sea Swirls on the returns. These devices can lower the return much lower into the display than a standard return. In my opinion having a giant sump to accomodate draining 6-8" of water from the display is a waste of space and a poor design. The only way around this is a check valve or a syphon break...Syphon break being the most reliable solution.

Also a sidenote, The AGA/Oceanic brand overflow kits have the syphon break already pre-drilled in the return.

Wes,

I agree with you in principle - what I was referring to was the design of the wavyseas, not the tank system -

And AGA/Perfecto are drilling them as safety features for people who don't know any better - all you have to do is adjust the output - not drill a hole.

Safe as it is, still think it's a little fugazi for systems that cost thousands of dollars.

There should be a better way . . . . . no?
