Hi,
I'm thinking of buying this for my 45G + 10G sump as a cheaper option for cooling this summer. Thus far my temp hasnt risen above 85 with a little help from a frozen bottle of water during the last heat wave. I dont want to invest 300+ dollars for a couple of degress...

Does anyone have any experience with this chiller on setups that are larger than nanos?

Thanks,
k

I just attempted to order the microchiller for my ap 24 and they are on back order from Marine Depot. I did get the mini controller for it and it seems kinda flimsy. I hope it actually comes in stock, and actually works when I do get it.

wow that looks like a piece of crap. Go to any computer store and pick up those pieces for dirt cheap. Plus those heat dissipation blocks usually have a very high aluminum content w/ copper mixed in for more efficiency. Just my 2 cents.

Contrary to what some members think... These are very effective units; but I would place the max at 30 gallons. The only problem I've had with these are the power supplies keep failing. I'm going to be on my third one as soon as I can get in touch with customer service, which seems to be non-existent this time around. (very helpful last time).

Care to explain what the parts are and how to make this so that ppl can save money? Instead of just bashing a product, maybe it would be a better idea to actually be constructive and show how we could make our own, and what components are needed to complete this project. Otherwise a bunch of people including myself are going to be using this device because its all that we can afford and have access to.

coolworks microchiller was the best investment for my 24G Aquapod, I did not buy the mini controller. However, I did connected to my AC JR. Last week when the weather was in the mid 90's. My temputure sustained no higher than 81 degree's. One more thing My Aquapd is located in my loft where is warmer than downstair.

There were alot of threads about the peltier coolers on nanoreef when i started up because there was no descent cooler for the nano tanks. They work great but i wouldn;t put one on anything over 30g. If you don't understand peltiers and how they work its hard to make a DIY. Plus, the power supplies for them get expensive/break, people tend to forget about cleaning the heatsink and fan, ext. The cold side is proportionally cold to the warm side. If it heats up the other side does the same.

A peltier cooler DIY costs about 60$ once you figure in the pump, tubing and some sort of pipe saddle for the peltier so the water doesn't touch it. For the price and quality of some of them its better to just buy one pre made. nanocustoms had a good one that retailed about 160$ for a 25g. Mine kept my 24g about 6-8 degrees cooler on a hot hot day with the windows open =0) they only guaranteed 2-3 on a cool day.

i have one built into a 15gal tank, works great for 15gal, but i can't see this pulling down anything above 30gal like what Tosiek said. unless you had like 3 for a 45gal, but that's going down the wrong road if you ask me.
