I have a small amount of red bubble algae. The tank is 5 weeks old. There are 3 small patches on rock that has some beautiful coralline algae.

From what I understand the best way to get rid of it is to pull the pieces of rock out and scrub it off, rinse with saltwater and put it back in. True? Since it is a small amount is it necessary to get rid of it now or just monitor it? I'm hesitant to pull the 2 pieces that the rock is on because I used epoxy putty to attach it and I think it will be a pain to tke apart and put back in.

Tank Info:

34 Gal. Solana
40 lbs. LR
30 lbs. LS
1 royal gramma
1 green mushroom coral
1 sally lightfoot
3 nessarius snails

Temp = 77'
SG = 1.0243
pH = 8.4
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite < .025 ( LFS measured this as 0 )
Nitrate < 5.0 ( LFS measured this as 2.5 )

I feed once a day and the least few day the fish gets the food without any apparent waste.

Thanks!

i have dealt with similar problem in the past and I would suggest to take a look at the causes of algea first and than removal options. from the basic understanding I have I would look at two things: a) old light bulbs, b) overfeeding - if the lbulbs are new, algae grows b/c of overfeeding and abundance of nutrients. weekly water changes, less feeding, new bulbs, and if bubbles are small i would add 1-2 emerald crabs to eliminate bubbles. as far as nutrients - i went and bought simple mesh bags with carbon, chemi pure elite and phosban. it worked like a charm for me and in 3-4 weeks the problem was resolved. any questions - let me know.

leave it alone it a new setup, be patient and see what happens over time, if you get an out break and its def cyano turn off your lights for 2 to 3 days and it should die off, its a new tank right? im assuming you dont have any corals, but from what i have learned is to just be patient otherwise you're just gonna go nuts. i had cyano and i have corals and thats what i did and now its gone. but the best thing is to be patient otherwise you're gonna go broke lol.

I'm already broke! Just kidding.

I do have a coral, a green mushroom coral. I have activated carbon in there but it has been in there for a month and I have a jar of chemi-pure elite ready to replace it. My plan was to start doing 10% water changes this coming weekend and then do them weekly. I've also been adjusting how little to feed the fish. I'm going to just go into wait and see mode as far as the algae goes.
