Reef lighting

Guys,

I am in the process of converting my 55 gallon agressive FOWLR to a reef tank with some softies, LPS and hopefully SPS in the near future. I need some advice on what would be the ideal lighting, perferably T5HO, that would support a 55 gallon reef? I am keeping some softies right now under normal Flour with acintic supp. What would be the ideal wattage, # of bulbs and fixture to make this tank flourish.

If you prefer T5, 4 x 54W T5 is sufficient but always good to have 6 or more. Of course, there other choices of lighting technology.

I also agree 4 will be a good amount depending on the length of your take 54w or 39w would be a great start to a reef tank

What?s your tank size? Be carreful with the inches of the lamps.

A 54w T5 has 48inches and the 39w has 36inches.

So 54w will not fit perfectly in your tank, but i think it will not be a problem!

I have the same tank, 55G; and the 48" Nova Extrem fixture, it fits the tank nicely.
