Well you did post in the wrong thread and will most likely get moved once on of the mods wakes up lol. Anyways getting back to your question, I wouldn't do that. Your setup has build up essential bacteria and you will have to go through the whole cycling process, if i were you i would read about vodka dosing on Reef Central and try to combat your nitrate problem with that. Good luck. Even when you give your tank a good cleaing that doesn't mean that you will not have any nitrate problem.

Daivd,

Whats your Bio load. Do you have many fish or feed heavily ? Maybe try doing a larger water change.

god listen to this guy he is 100% right, you never clean a tank, thats what it needs. if you want tot clean you can clean your skimmer top, current props, pump props, and just the outside of your tank glass with water, never anytime of cleaning product.

I don't think he is really trying to clean his tank. I think he is looking to reduce his nitrates.

How old is the set up? Try using a power head to blow detritus off and out of the crevices in the rocks right before you siphon water for the water change. Also, keep the sump super clean and make sure there is no detritus built up in the corners.

I don't know what your bioload is but I'd say feed less (stop for a week). Don't break your tank simply because of your nitrates.

This one is going to be tough on this forum, you're not going to have 30 people answer that it's the tap water. LOL

Diatom filter Diatom filter Diatom filter. Use the output hose to stirr things up. The filter will catch it ALLLLL and then do a 20 percent water change for a few weeks. Done clean tank with no cycle. I dont know how people live without a diatom filter
