So I read alot of good things about chemi-pure elite and put it in my tank yesterday. I woke up this moring to a black tank. My LFS told me that i should have thoroughly rinsed the sock the media came in. Is this all I missed? Or is placement key too?

I have a 26 Gallon tank with a 1" overflow. The tank drains through hosing to my 10 gallon sump. I was planning on placing the chemi-pure directly under the tank runoff in te sump and on top of filter floss. Is this correct? I want to avoid waking up to another black tank.

Thanks,

It's all I use. Just put it in the overflow area but rinse it real good before you put it in the tank.

all you have too do is rinse it a little, not TOO much... The black stuff in your tank is harmless - it will clear up....

What I usually do is leave the chemi-pure in the container it came with and fill it with RO water, I cap it shake it lightly, then pour the water out, I repeat this 3-4 times and its good too go!

I rinsed it realy good. Still worried about putting it back in the sump.

Since there appears to be no more black runoff coming out of the chemipure does that mean it is out of carbon?

the black runoff is just carbon dust. nothign to worry about it just looks crappy and will eventually settle out. If the dust is still in suspension, running a filter sock or some sort of fine mechanical filtration will get rid of it.

as for the filterfloss, put some above the chemipure too. this will keep (or at least delay) the media bag from clogging up with detritus.
