well guys i should of done it before placing the live rocks in the tank. Is there a way to drill holes on the LR while in water in the tank so that i can place frags in? all my corals, fish and inverts are already in and am not going take them out, any ideas. thanks for reading

I can't recommend to use of electric drills, in water, for some reason I keep getting a shock! :splitspin otherwise, the material drilled is going to turn into a calcium paste and temporarily cloud the water...even if you could drill in water, you'll have to apply some pressure, and god-forbid, you force , the rock or drill thru the glass! Really, the best/safest/only way is to remove the rock, or buy new rocks (pre-drilled) from me!

If you absolutely must do this then use a cordless drill with an extension adapter with a masonry bit.........and GOOD LUCK....It really is a bad idea. I would not recomend drilling while in the tank.
can you drain water at least half way? that way fish will have some at the bottom and corals will be ok without water for couple minutes. that way you can drill top rocks at least, without putting entire drill under water...

Just pull them out and drill them, U know in a day or two you are gonna look at your rocks and see something u want to change anyway we all do it. wait till your in the mood and then re-aquascape with the drill. I used clear zip ties through my drilled holes to hold it and everything is solid and the ties are invisible.
of all the issues involved in sticking an electric drill into a large basin of saltwater, i think clouding of the water is the least of them. if for no other reason than you probably won't be around to be bothered by it :splitspin

Don't drill it in the tank. Just take the rocks out and get a masonry bit like closet said. I had to go to Home Depot years ago for this reason. I was getting a masonry bit and the guy who was helping me asked what i was drilling. I told him I was drilling bone and we shared an elongated stare and then he just walked away. The hardest part was trying not to crack up. Even with the right equipment though, drilling rock is not that easy. Rock density can vary greatly.

Also, drill a pilot hole. You use a small diameter bit (1/8") and put it in a hole in the rock. You only need to drill in about 1/2" but this will prevent the bigger diameter masonry bit from slipping from where you want the hole.
I used to drill moorings into reef rock in the ocean.
We used a pneumatic drill powered by compressed air with a coring drill. Similar to a glass drill - hollow inside.
I would highly recommend finding a compressed air drill if you can. Garages have them. If you know anyone in the car repair business.
