I cleaned out my skimmer (a Bak Pak) last weekend, and for the first time started to get a lot of micro bubbles. I took one of my girlfriend's stockings, cut off the toe, and put it on the outtake pipe with a rubberband. That stopped the bubbles, but it was slowly swelling up over the last several days, and I noticed that the water level in the skimmer was raising. Not wanting to come home to see water everywhere, I took the stocking off, which of course meant that the bubbles started back (although is seemed like there were less of them.)

I was looking around today, and I found two things that would appear to help me, but I'm coming to the experts here to help me out. The first thing is a bubble trap, which goes on the outtake pipe and traps the bubbles. However, there is also a unit called a BBX, which combines both a preskimmer AND a bubble trap. However, it fits over the powerhead, not the outtake pipe. Could it work just as good that way? I'd rather get the dual unit (since it's only just a few dollars more), but if it's ineffective at getting rid of the bubbles, then I'll just get the bubble trap on its own.

And for what it's worth, the Bak Pak has done a great job in the year or so that I've had it. I just keep it clean and it takes good care of my tank.

After you cleaned it you are going to have to wait for it to break in again. This is fairly common and will stop over time.
