welcome to MR. If u havent done any research online, the general rule of thumb is 1-2 lb of liverock per gallon. Live sand is personal preference, some people does bare bottom while other does super deep sand bed. I like some sand around 2 inch in the display tank so it looks more natural, and have deep sand bed in my sump for nitrate reduction. I personally think sand is beneficial in terms of nitrate reduction and ph buffering. But I think basic filtration is the liverocks. It really depend on the amount of bioload you will have in your tank to determine the amount of liverock you need. Go with 1-2 lbs of liverock per gallon, everyone does.

The question is how do you want your tank to look? That will determine the amount of rock and sand.

Some rock is more dense than others. Therefore the less dense you can find, more lacelike, the more surface area it'll have for colonizing bacteria. You'll also find that the more lacelike it is, the less poundage you'll need.

As for sand, it's been stated enough already, totally a personal preference.

BTW, welcome to MR and enjoy your stay.

as stated depends not all rock of same size weighs the same, i have 90% marco rock which is about half the weight of most rock, best bet get around 2" sand bed and pick out best shaped rock and play with rock work, figure out with placement what you think looks best, or skim through tank threads and look at others rock placement and go from there

Just remember if you do go with Marco rock, you will have "cure" the heck out of it.
