also.....my hippo got ich, i want to do a freshwater dip, but im terrified to do so. Is there anything i can do besides that and copper to cure it? (newbie....lol)

there are a number of factors that will help give you a better answer. i think s its best if you add a thread on the forum here so you get the best help.

I would not do a copper or FW dip just yet, specially if hes still eating and behaving normal. the best way is to put him in a qt tank and lower the salinity level, its called hyposalinity treatment. But again, it depends on how long you've had your tank, how many fish you have, rocks, etc.

Youll find plenty of help here but youll need a few more details about your current set-up -that way we can get into more detail on what you can do. ive successfully treated a couple tangs so ill be glad to help.

ok....i have a convict tang, blue hippo tang, yellow tang, purple tang, and two tomato clowns. 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 arrowhead crab, about 20 snails. 70 lbs of LR. I was looking into hyposalinity but was reading that it isnt too effective when it comes to ich. Ive had my tank since sept. The hippo is doing ok, eating and swimming normally.

WOW. thats a big bioload for a tank of that size and a tank that young. unless you can catch him I wouldnt use copper unless youre gonna use it in a QT tank. Are you using RO/DI water? do weekly water changes if you can and clean your substrate often. dip your food in garlic (GarlicX) and keep you eye on water quality. But i must say that your are kinda pushing the envelope having that many tangs in there lol. Some of the guys here will crucify you for that :smash:.
its not imperative that you can him out although it would help. But if you cant that you can do your best to keep his stress level down doing what i mentioned above. Mine gets it about once a year and hes fine.

no disrespect but a 75 is too small for just about a single one of the tangs you listed except the yellow tang and the yellow tang will usually become a junkyard dog in a tank that size

i would definitely recommend that since its a 6' tank but even with that many tangs i may suggest an 8' even more...its not so much about volume more about length

i mean you can do it in a 6' but id recommend the 8 lol just think the blue hippo and purple tang can get 12"+

ill leave the bioload alone, lol youll get enough beatings from other members.. but i would get him out, do a hyposalinitly treatment.. 1.010-1.014 for a few days.. use your tank water then dilute it with fresh ro/di water. whe you drop the tang in the tank(no need to aclimate) you will see some of the ich cysts burst right off of it..it will take abt a week to clear up.. also feed garlic enriched foods while it is in there to assist with the heath of the fish. also keet the temp a little higher tank your display tank.. you should be fine as long as he keeps eating.. make sure the o2 levels are good as well tangs require higher o2 levels than most fish...
